Symbiotic is a permissionless restaking framework — the closest thing to a general-purpose alternative to EigenLayer. Any asset can be used as collateral; any operator set can secure any application. Backed by Cyber Fund + Paradigm, growing developer traction.
What Symbiotic is
Symbiotic provides infrastructure for building custom restaking networks. Unlike EigenLayer (which curates AVSs and collateral) or Karak (multi-asset but centrally managed), Symbiotic is fully permissionless — anyone can create a vault, define its collateral, and pair with operator sets.
Framework not consumer product
Symbiotic is primarily a developer framework. Consumer users interact through downstream products (Mellow vaults, various restaking wrappers) rather than directly with Symbiotic contracts.
Verdict
Symbiotic is a permissionless restaking framework with heavyweight backers. Very early in market but architecturally significant — expect the ecosystem to grow substantially through 2026-27.
