Babylon is a Bitcoin-native staking protocol that lets BTC holders earn yield without bridging their coins off-chain. Launched in 2024 by a team of cryptography researchers led by David Tse, Babylon introduces a novel cryptographic primitive — Bitcoin Timestamping and Bitcoin Staking — that anchors Proof-of-Stake chains to Bitcoin's security. The BABY token is the native asset of the Babylon Chain, the Layer 1 that coordinates the protocol.
The core insight is straightforward: Bitcoin is the most battle-tested security layer in crypto, but its coins sit idle for most holders. Babylon lets BTC work as economic security for external PoS networks while keeping the coins self-custodied on Bitcoin Layer 1. BABY rewards accrue to stakers who lock BTC and validators who secure the Babylon Chain.
The BABY price is set by spot order flow on centralized and decentralized venues. Live data on this page is a volume-weighted average refreshed every 60 seconds. The most liquid pairs are BABY/USDT and BABY/BTC.

Traditional wrapped-BTC DeFi (WBTC, cbBTC) requires bridging, which introduces custodial or smart-contract risk. Babylon avoids this entirely. BTC holders lock their coins using a self-custodied Bitcoin script. The locked UTXO cannot be spent without the holder's key, but it can be slashed via EOTS (Extractable One-Time Signatures) if the delegated validator misbehaves. This is the cryptographic novelty: slashing is enforceable on Bitcoin L1 without a bridge.

Protocol mechanics in brief:
The BABY token has a total supply of 10 billion. Allocation is split across the foundation, team (with multi-year vesting), ecosystem incentives, and public distribution. The token powers three functions on the Babylon Chain: paying transaction fees, staking for Babylon Chain security, and governance participation.
The dual-reward model — BABY emissions for early adopters, BTC fee revenue for long-term stakers — is designed to bootstrap participation before protocol fee volume becomes self-sustaining.
Babylon has attracted a broad set of PoS chains and restaking protocols as integration partners. Chains that checkpoint via Babylon gain Bitcoin-grade finality guarantees. Restaking protocols like EigenLayer and Symbiotic have explored integration with Babylon's BTC security layer to diversify the assets backing their actively validated services.
Babylon and EigenLayer are the two most prominent restaking protocols, but they operate on different base assets and with different trust assumptions.

BABY is available on centralized exchanges and Cosmos DEXs. Follow these steps:
If you plan to stake BTC via the Babylon protocol, you will need a Bitcoin wallet that supports Babylon-compatible scripts (e.g., Keystone, OKX Wallet, or Ledger with the Babylon app).
Babylon introduces novel cryptographic mechanisms applied to Bitcoin — which is both the value proposition and the primary technical risk. The EOTS construction, while academically peer-reviewed, has limited production history compared to standard Bitcoin scripts.

Whether Babylon is a good investment depends on your goals, time horizon, and tolerance for volatility. Like all cryptocurrencies, BABY carries significant market risk — prices can rise or fall sharply in a single day, and past performance is not a reliable indicator of future returns.
