Global Dollar (USDG) is a fiat-backed stablecoin pegged one-to-one to the US dollar, issued by Paxos Digital Singapore and, within the EU, by Paxos Issuance Europe under a Finnish e-money license. Reserve assets are held in segregated trust accounts rather than commingled with the issuer's operating capital, and holders can redeem directly with Paxos for dollars at any time. The design targets institutions and regulated venues that need auditable, jurisdictionally compliant dollar exposure on-chain, positioning USDG as a compliance-first alternative to earlier-generation stablecoins.
USDG trades at $0.999986, within a fraction of a cent of its dollar target, with a market capitalization of roughly $3.31 billion and a rank of 31 among all cryptoassets tracked by CoinGecko. Daily trading volume of about $1.3 billion relative to that market cap points to active turnover typical of a settlement and trading-pair asset rather than a buy-and-hold position. The peg itself is maintained through redemption arbitrage, monthly independent attestations of reserves, and annual audits overseen by Singapore's MAS and Finland's FIN-FSA, with new tokens minted or burned against dollar deposits across six networks: Ethereum, Solana, Ink, X Layer, Mantle and the Robinhood chain. The token's all-time high of $1.65, recorded in January 2025, is an outlier for a dollar-pegged asset and most plausibly reflects thin liquidity on an early trading pair rather than genuine price appreciation.
USDG competes in a category dominated by Tether's USDT and Circle's USDC, both carrying far larger circulating supply and deeper secondary-market liquidity. Its differentiation is regulatory: dual supervision under MiCA in the EU and MAS in Singapore gives it a compliance profile that neither USDT nor most offshore-issued stablecoins currently match. USDG is distributed through the Global Dollar Network, a consortium structure that includes Robinhood among its partners, reflected in USDG's dedicated deployment on the Robinhood chain; the tradeoff is that its smaller supply base still means shallower order books than incumbent stablecoins on many venues.
