Shiba Inu (SHIB) is the largest meme-coin ecosystem after Dogecoin. The token launched in August 2020 by an anonymous developer who used the name Ryoshi. SHIB is an ERC-20 token issued on Ethereum, and the project markets itself as a community-driven experiment rather than a payment network. The Shiba Inu ecosystem now spans three tokens (SHIB, LEASH, BONE), a DEX (ShibaSwap), and an Ethereum Layer 2 chain called Shibarium.
The original supply was one quadrillion SHIB. About 410 trillion of those have been permanently burned, most of them in the famous May 2021 burn by Vitalik Buterin. Roughly 589 trillion SHIB remain in circulation today. Burn activity is ongoing through the dedicated Shiba Inu burn portal, but new burns barely move the needle against the remaining supply.
SHIB trades on most major centralized and decentralized exchanges. Live data on this page is aggregated across venues and refreshes every 60 seconds. The reference quote is a volume-weighted average across the deepest pools and order books.

Ryoshi sent half of the original SHIB supply (500 trillion) to Vitalik Buterin’s public Ethereum address in 2021 as a publicity move. In May 2021, Vitalik burned 410 trillion of those tokens and donated the remaining ~$1 billion equivalent to the India COVID-Crypto Relief Fund. The event removed almost half of the SHIB supply in a single transaction and remains the most-cited origin moment for the project.
Three things to keep in mind about SHIB supply:
Shibarium is a Layer 2 chain built on Ethereum that launched in August 2023. The mainnet had a rough opening week — bridge backups and a brief halt — but recovered and has been operational since. Shibarium uses BONE (the second token in the Shiba Inu trio) for gas. SHIB itself is a transferable asset on the chain.
A small portion of every Shibarium gas fee is used to buy back and burn SHIB on Ethereum. The burn rate from Shibarium activity is the closest thing the project has to a built-in supply sink. Adoption has been moderate — mostly NFT and meme-coin launches — but the chain has held up technically.
Shiba Inu and Dogecoin are the two largest meme coins, and they are often confused for being interchangeable. The economics differ in ways that matter for anyone holding either over more than a single cycle.
Buying SHIB is straightforward. The bigger decisions are which exchange to use, whether to hold the ERC-20 version on Ethereum, and whether to bridge to Shibarium for ecosystem activity.

Memecoin volatility is the headline risk. The structural risks behind a community-driven asset matter just as much.
This page is information, not financial advice. Meme coins concentrate volatility risk in a way that is easy to underestimate.
At the time of writing, Shiba Inu (SHIB) trades at $0.000006, with a 24-hour trading volume of $70.87M and a total market capitalization of $3.29B. The asset is currently ranked #33 among all tracked cryptocurrencies by market cap.

Short-term price swings are often amplified by liquidity conditions, news flow, and derivatives positioning, so traders should confirm signals across multiple indicators before acting.
Shiba Inu's all-time high of $0.000086 was set on October 28, 2021. The current market price is +93.51% below that historical peak. Distance from the all-time high is a common reference point when evaluating long-term recoveries and identifying macro support or resistance levels.
Buying Shiba Inu (SHIB) is straightforward once you know which exchange to use and which trading pair offers the best liquidity. The steps below describe the typical flow used by most investors today.
You can also use the built-in Shiba Inu converter above to estimate exactly how much SHIB you would receive for a given amount in USD before placing an order.
Whether Shiba Inu is a good investment depends on your goals, time horizon, and tolerance for volatility. Like all cryptocurrencies, SHIB carries significant market risk — prices can rise or fall sharply in a single day, and past performance is not a reliable indicator of future returns.
