DOG•GO•TO•THE•MOON (ticker: DOG) is the largest meme token in the Bitcoin Runes protocol. Runes are fungible tokens inscribed directly on the Bitcoin blockchain using the OP_RETURN opcode, introduced by Casey Rodarmor in the Runes protocol launch at the April 2024 Bitcoin halving. DOG was airdropped to Ordinals holders and quickly became the benchmark asset for the entire Runes ecosystem.
DOG has a total supply of 100 billion tokens. Its rapid rise to the top of the Runes market cap rankings established a template for BTC-native meme assets: large supply, community distribution, no product, pure cultural momentum. Unlike Ethereum memes, DOG lives entirely on Bitcoin and cannot be held in an ERC-20 wallet.
The DOG price is quoted in BTC satoshis on-chain and in USD on centralized exchanges that have listed the asset. Live data on this page is refreshed every 60 seconds from a volume-weighted multi-venue feed.

The Runes protocol was designed by Casey Rodarmor (also the creator of Ordinals) to give Bitcoin a clean fungible token standard. Before Runes, the main Bitcoin token standards were BRC-20 (which abused the Ordinals inscription system and produced UTXO bloat) and Counterparty (an older protocol from 2014). Runes use a UTXO-native approach encoded in OP_RETURN outputs, which is more efficient and aligns better with Bitcoin's transaction model.

DOG was etched at block 840,000 (the halving block) with a supply of 100 billion and distributed to qualifying Ordinals wallets.
DOG's distribution was designed to reward existing Ordinals community members. Holders of specific Ordinals collections, and especially holders of Runestones (a commemorative Ordinal dropped to long-time Ordinals wallets), received proportional DOG allocations. The snapshot was taken before the Runes launch, and claims were processed in the first weeks after the halving.
The fair distribution mechanism was a key narrative driver in DOG's early price appreciation. Insiders did not receive a disproportionate allocation, and the project's anonymous team retained no explicit treasury.
DOG, PEPE, and Dogecoin are each the top meme asset on their respective layers: Bitcoin Runes, Ethereum ERC-20, and the original Dogecoin blockchain.

Buying DOG requires either a Runes-compatible Bitcoin wallet for on-chain trading, or a CEX that lists the asset.
Self-custodying DOG on Bitcoin is more technically involved than holding an ERC-20. For most retail buyers, a reputable CEX with withdrawal support is the simpler option.
DOG combines meme-coin risk with the additional complexities of a nascent token standard on Bitcoin. Both risk layers compound.
