MANTRA (OM) started in 2020 as MANTRA DAO, a DeFi staking platform with a multichain footprint and a focus on community governance. The project pivoted in 2023-2024 into something quite different: a regulated Layer 1 chain built around tokenized real-world assets, with operating bases in Hong Kong and Dubai. CEO John Patrick Mullin leads the team, which holds a Dubai VARA license to issue and trade tokenized RWAs on its own chain.
OM is the native token. It originally lived as an ERC-20 on Ethereum and a BEP-20 on BNB Chain, and migrated to a native MANTRA Chain token at mainnet launch in October 2024. Total supply sits near 1.8 billion OM after a re-tokenomics that replaced the older 888.8M cap, with ongoing emissions on one side and a burn programme on the other. The token is used for staking, gas on MANTRA Chain, and governance over chain-level decisions.
OM trades against USDT, USD, USDC, and BTC on most major venues. The reference price on this page is a volume-weighted average from spot exchanges with the deepest order books and refreshes every 60 seconds. The relevant context for any current OM quote is that the token is in a post-crash recovery phase: OM hit an all-time high above $8 in early 2025 before collapsing in April 2025 (the section below covers what happened), and has spent most of the time since rebuilding from much lower levels.

MANTRA Chain mainnet went live in October 2024. It is built with the Cosmos SDK and uses CometBFT for consensus, the same engine that secures the Cosmos Hub and most other app-chains in that ecosystem. On top of that base, MANTRA adds an EVM-compatible execution layer so Solidity contracts deploy with minimal changes, and it plugs into IBC for cross-chain messaging with the rest of Cosmos.
The design choices reveal who the chain is for:
The dApp layer is still early. Magma is the in-house DEX, and MOM provides yield vaults. Several RWA originators have signed pipeline deals with the chain, but the volume of tokenized assets actually settling on MANTRA is small compared with the headline numbers in partnership announcements. That gap between announced pipeline and live throughput is one of the things the market is watching most closely.
MANTRA holds a Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) licence from Dubai. VARA is the dedicated regulator for crypto and virtual assets in the emirate, and the licence covers issuance and trading of tokenized real-world assets on the MANTRA Chain. The team also operates from Hong Kong, with executive presence split between the two cities.
Why this matters for OM as a token: regulated counterparties (real-estate developers, banks, fund managers) need a venue with clear legal standing before they tokenize anything serious. A VARA-licensed L1 gives those counterparties a starting point for compliance work, and that is the wedge MANTRA is trying to use against permissionless RWA platforms that can carry more legal ambiguity. The trade-off is that the same licence creates ongoing dependencies. Changes to the VARA framework, new conditions on existing licences, or enforcement actions in the UAE all hit MANTRA more directly than they hit a chain that does not market regulatory standing as a feature.
The Dubai base is also why MANTRA’s pipeline skews so heavily toward Middle East real estate. DAMAC and MAG are both Dubai developers; the bulk of MANTRA’s announced tokenization volume reflects that geographic concentration rather than a global RWA footprint.
The partnership story is the main bull case most OM holders point to. The headline names matter, but so does the gap between announcement and live tokenization volume.
The honest read on the partnership stack is that the announcements are real and the names are real, but the path from a signed memorandum to a tokenized asset trading on MANTRA Chain has several gates: legal structuring, regulatory sign-off in each relevant jurisdiction, custodial setup, and the operational work of actually onboarding holders. The market reads each step toward live volume as a positive, and treats stalled timelines as a drag.
On April 13, 2025, OM dropped from roughly $6 to under $0.50 in a matter of hours. It is one of the largest single-day collapses for a top-50 asset in recent memory and it sits at the centre of any honest discussion of the token today.
OM stabilized at much lower levels through 2025 and started a slow recovery. The team has continued to publish disclosures, run burn events, and lean into the regulated-RWA narrative. Anyone considering OM today should price the April 2025 event into expectations rather than treat it as ancient history. The structural conditions that allowed the crash, low free float, leveraged offshore positions, limited spot depth, do not disappear just because price moves on.
OM is widely listed across spot venues, and MANTRA Chain itself supports native staking once you move OM into a self-custody wallet. A typical flow:
Send a small test transfer first whenever you move size. A misrouted withdrawal to the wrong network is permanent, and the legacy ERC-20 / BEP-20 OM contracts are not the same asset as native MANTRA Chain OM.
OM’s risk profile does not look like a generic large-cap altcoin. The April 2025 crash made the structural issues impossible to ignore, and any honest look at the token has to start there.
