DeepBook v3 introduced self-funded pools, stability pools, and tighter integration with the Sui bridge ecosystem. Future versions are expected to expand to perpetuals and options matching via the same shared book infrastructure.

DEEP tokenomics

DEEP has a fixed maximum supply. The allocation was designed to bootstrap both liquidity and governance: a large share went to ecosystem incentives and airdrops targeting early Sui DeFi participants, with the rest split between the team, investors, and a community treasury. Token utility is primarily fee discounts on DeepBook trades and governance voting on protocol parameters.

• Fee discounts. DEEP holders who stake or hold a threshold balance pay lower taker fees on all DeepBook pools. The discount scales with the amount held.
• Governance. DEEP token votes on upgrades to pool parameters, fee tiers, and new pool whitelisting. Voting happens on-chain through Sui governance modules.
• Community treasury. A portion of protocol fees flows into the treasury and is distributed by governance to liquidity incentives, audits, and ecosystem grants.

The token has no inflation mechanism beyond the original fixed schedule. Once all tokens are fully vested, the only new DEEP entering circulation comes from programmatic incentive distributions already locked in the smart contract.

DeepBook vs Uniswap and other AMMs

The core design difference is order type. Uniswap, Curve, and most EVM DEXs use AMM models where price is determined by a formula applied to pool reserves. DeepBook is a CLOB where traders set explicit limit prices. Each model has a different user profile.

• Price precision. A limit order on DeepBook fills at exactly the posted price. An AMM fill has slippage that grows with trade size relative to the pool depth.
• Capital efficiency. AMM LPs must hold both assets. DeepBook makers post only the asset they are offering, which can improve capital efficiency for directional traders.
• Passive LPs. AMMs let anyone become an LP by depositing liquidity. DeepBook market-making requires active order management.
• Composability. AMM pools on Ethereum are battle-tested and extremely composable. DeepBook composability lives within the Sui ecosystem, which is smaller but growing fast.

DeepBook ecosystem and integrations

The core promise of DeepBook is that other teams build on top of it rather than beside it. Several Sui-native projects have integrated DeepBook as their primary execution venue, including spot DEX frontends, liquidity aggregators, and portfolio management apps. This creates a flywheel: more integrators bring more order flow, which attracts more market makers, which tightens spreads, which makes the platform more attractive to integrators.

The Sui Foundation has supported DeepBook grants to teams building market-making bots, analytics dashboards, and cross-chain bridges that route liquidity through the order book. Institutional market makers active on Sui CEX derivatives have also started deploying capital on-chain through DeepBook, which has improved book depth on the major pairs.

How to buy DEEP

DEEP is primarily a Sui ecosystem token. Here is how to acquire it:

1. Compare exchanges. A handful of centralized exchanges have listed DEEP. Check our exchange ratings for fees, withdrawal limits, and supported chains.
2. Get SUI first. If you plan to buy on-chain, acquire SUI on a CEX, withdraw to a Sui wallet (Sui Wallet, Suiet, or Phantom), and use it to swap to DEEP.

DEEP liquidity outside the Sui ecosystem is limited. Use a bridge only if you know the bridge security model and have confirmed wrapped DEEP is supported on the destination chain.

DEEP is a small-cap token in an ecosystem that is still building critical mass. The risk profile is skewed higher than for large-cap assets.

• Ecosystem concentration. DeepBook’s value depends almost entirely on Sui network growth. If developer or user activity migrates to other chains, order flow drops and so does DEEP.
• Smart-contract risk. CLOB logic is complex. An exploit in the matching engine or pool contracts could drain funds and collapse the token price.
• Liquidity risk. DEEP is thinly traded outside Sui. Wide spreads on CEX pairs and limited bridge rails mean large exits can move price significantly.
• Vesting pressure. Staged unlock events add predictable sell pressure. Large unlocks around cliff dates have historically coincided with price weakness for similarly structured tokens.
• Competition. Other Sui DEXs can deploy their own liquidity fragmentation strategies. If a competing protocol captures more volume, DeepBook fee revenue suffers.
• Regulatory tail. DEX tokens that capture protocol revenue have attracted regulatory attention in some jurisdictions. DEEP’s governance-and-fee-discount model is not immune.
